GAME DEVELOPER - LEVEL DESIGN
SPACE HAZARDS: REPAIR MISSION
ROLE
Solo Project
DESCRIPTION
This is a prototype made in my 3rd year of university. It has been made to be used in a museum, paired with a custom controller within its own unit. This would be placed alongside the museum's own space debris exhibit as a tool for reinforcement learning towards the younger audience.

DESIGN
The game’s primary features include:
-
A space shuttle that players can navigate (currently mapped to keyboard keys).
-
Damaged satellites that players can repair by answering questions about space debris.
-
Orbiting debris to avoid, acting as an obstacle for the player when flying to satellites.
-
Customizable trivia questions, allowing the game to be adaptable to different exhibit contexts.
-
After repairing the satellites, the player is displayed the time it took for them to complete.
Museum-focused features include:
-
Game reloading if no inputs have been detected for 30 seconds – to allow players to play from the start if someone has left part way through playing and also ensure the game is on the menu by default if left unattended.
Additionally, plans for the final product include integrating a custom controller:
-
A lever to control thrust which will replace the current up/down arrow keys.
-
A joystick for manoeuvrability and to answer quiz questions, replacing the WASD keys.
